Oxygena is a tile like no other. It is the only tile to contain titanium dioxide, an invaluable element which, through a totally natural process, reacts to and eliminates polluting gases thus rendering them harmless. When ultraviolet rays hit Oxygena’s surface, titanium dioxide, which has photocatalytic qualities, activates an oxidisation process that transforms polluting gases such as nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide (produced in the exhaust of motor vehicles and one of the prime causes of poor air quality) into nitrate ions which are harmless, eco-efficient salts. This totally eco-friendly process is similar to photosynthesis, whereby plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, thus purifying the atmosphere. Tests show that 100 sq. m. of Oxygena tiles can purify up to 7200 cubic metres of air in the space of eight hours of sunlight** or exposure to induction lamps.
