Application. Manufacturer shall complete and submit GEI application, identifying all products including brand names, selling names, private label names, and other product specific identifiers presented for certification. Identification must be product unique and recognizable by the design and consumer communities.
Testing. The Manufacturer will engage an approved indoor air quality testing Laboratory to conduct a manufacturing review and profile testing of the products, and to establish certification categories representing the products for certification. The emissions levels must be shown not to exceed the maximum allowable air concentrations at 96 hours (representing 5 elapsed days from product installation in a building). The Manufacturer must submit final test data showing that the product meets the allowable emission levels.
Test Protocols. All product testing will be conducted in environmental chambers with dynamic airflow and standard environmental conditions, following consensus based ASTM standards D-5116-97 and D-6670-01.
Profile Testing and Manufacturing Review. An approved indoor air quality testing Laboratory will visit the manufacturing facilities to (a) evaluate the Manufacturer's Products, the manufacturing processes used to manufacture such Products, and how such processes impact chemical emissions and variability among manufactured products (b) determine the number of certification testing categories for the Products, and (c) determine the scope of testing for such Products.
Certification Testing. The approved indoor air quality testing Laboratory shall perform certification testing, which includes emissions testing of the Products in each certification category to determine whether such Products comply with the emissions levels. This includes Quarterly Confirmation Testing and Annual Certification Testing of products representing each certification category.
Quarterly Confirmation Testing and Annual Certification Testing. Manufacturer shall submit for testing one sample or two (2) designated sample components of the Product(s) that GEI has determined comply with the Certification Standards every three (3) months after the Certification Date for confirmation testing. Every twelve (12) months after the Certification Date, Manufacturer must submit one (1) sample of the Product(s) that GEI has determined comply with the Certification Standards for annual comprehensive certification testing ("Annual Certification Testing"). "Certification Date" shall mean the date of written notice from GEI to Manufacturer that the applicable Product complies with the Certification Standards.
Product Changes/Additional Testing. Manufacturer will provide written notice to the GEI of any changes in the manufacturing processes or changes in the materials and/or chemicals used by Manufacturer in the manufacturing or construction of such Products in the certification category provided by Manufacturer during the most recent Quarterly Confirmation Testing or Annual Certification Testing for the applicable Product. In the event that no such changes have been made or have occurred, Manufacturer will provide written confirmation to that effect.
Sample Collection. Product samples should be collected directly from the manufacturing line and shipped to the testing Laboratory following their instructions. The GEI, or its agent, shall have the right to retrieve and collect the Annual certification sample and quarterly samples at three-month intervals following retrieval of the annual sample. GEI reserves the right to specify manufacturing location and specific product for testing as the annual certification and as the quarterly testing samples.
Program Acceptance. The GEI will notify the Manufacturer, through a formal written notification, that the product was tested in accordance with the approved methods and that the test confirmed or did not confirm that the product met the allowable emissions levels. If the product meets the emissions levels and the application is complete, then Manufacturer may use the certification mark according to the License agreement with the GEI. If the product does not meet the emissions level for either an annual or quarterly test, the Laboratory will conduct a retest of the same product. If the results are confirmed, the Manufacturer will be requested to identify the cause of the product test failure in writing and to submit a correction action plan and corrected certification sample within 30 days of notification of the failure.
