Los Angeles, CA – Meeting new, stringent definitions for sustainable carpet, Bentley Prince Street, Inc. announced that all of its standard* broadloom products are certified at the highest Platinum Level with the new NSF 140-2007 Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard. In addition, all of Bentley Prince Street’s standard* carpet tile products, as well as all broadloom products using the optional Prestige PlusRC backing, are certified at the Gold Level.

NSF 140 is the first multi-attribute American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard for environmentally preferable building materials in the construction industry. The product rating system was conducted by NSF International, an independent, not-for-profit organization that is a leading global provider of public health and safety risk management solutions.

“Our goal has always been to design and manufacture products that are both beautiful and environmentally sustainable. Meeting NSF International’s rigorous requirements for a new definition of sustainable carpet is another significant milestone for Bentley Prince Street and an important step in our Mission Zero journey to a sustainable future,” said Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. “We hope this new common certification system will help the marketplace compare sustainability attributes across our industry, and encourage customers to identify and choose products that protect our planet’s natural resources.”

NSF 140 was designed to establish a single certification system to assess and define sustainable carpet across the floor covering industry with common metrics. The new standard establishes performance requirements for public health and the environment, and assesses the economic, environmental and social impacts of carpet manufacturing throughout the supply chain. In achieving the Platinum level, Bentley Prince Street demonstrated that all its standard broadloom products:

Contain at least 10% post consumer content

- Minimize indoor air VOC emissions, and meet the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus requirements for indoor air quality

- Demonstrate extended product life

- Do not contain PBDE Flame Retardants

- Undergo an extensive life cycle assessment process

- Meet the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) recycling goals, including a minimum of 10% reclamation and recycling of carpet products
