International Emerging Technology Symposium

Ontario, Calif. (July 15, 2008) — Mobile phones, iPods and the Internet — all essentially unheard oftechnologies 20 years ago and, today, items most of us couldn’t live without. At the same pace, plumbing andHVAC advances have emerged and continue to reshape our daily lives both at home and at our places ofbusiness. In many instances, these advances simplify life while simultaneously helping save energy andreducing our impact on the environment.

Get the scoop on all of these practical, innovative technologies by attending the International EmergingTechnology Symposium, co-hosted by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials(IAPMO) and the World Plumbing Council, Aug. 19-20 at the O’Hare Marriott in Chicago.

A host of presenters will introduce participants to the various ways in which the manufacturing, engineeringand trade industries devise solutions to international regulatory developments on such topics as: water,sanitation and health; water and energy efficiency; water reuse; solar and other renewable energies; and fat,oil and grease discharges.

Organizers have assembled a tremendous panel of experts, headed by keynote speaker Stephen L.Johnson, the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He’ll relate his 27 years withEPA to the challenges and opportunities presented by our modern world and its latest advances. Otherspresenting new perspectives and technologies include:

  • Jennifer Mercer, World Health Organization, on “The Role of Plumbing in the Protection of Public Health”
  • Mary Ann Dickinson, Alliance for Water Efficiency, on the impact of energy embedded in treated water
  • Tom Meyer, Green Mechanical Council, on “GreenSpeak” and the challenge of making green mainstream
  • Bill Hoffman, Hoffman & Associates, on alternative on-site sources of water and green building
  • Glen Pleasance, Region of Durham, Ontario, Canada, will present the results of his home efficiency study
  • John Koeller, Alliance for Water Efficiency, and Bill Gauley, Veritec Consulting Inc., on the five mostinnovative new water savings products available today
  • E.W. Boulware, Design-Aire Engineering, will discuss sizing and design of rainwater catchment systems
  • Robert Zimmerman, Kohler Co., on a proposed rating system for high efficiency plumbing fixtures
  • Roy Sieber, ERG (WaterSense), with five basic research needs to advance the WaterSense specification
  • Gary Klein, Affiliated International Management, LLC, will layout a plumbing system on the room floor
