“Brownfield Development in Ohio 2008: Taking It To The Next Level” is the theme of the National Brownfield Associations (NBA) Ohio chapter conference on October 16, 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. at the Seneca, 361 E. Broad Street in Columbus. Topics will include:
  • The Ohio legislative agenda as it relates to brownfield redevelopment, and the Clean Ohio initiative
  • Brownfield redevelopment initiatives in the City of Columbus
  • Sustainable development; connecting green building to brownfield sites
  • Public-private partnerships
Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman will offer welcoming remarks. Other speakers will include William Murdock, director of the Ohio Office of Urban Development; Mike Eckhardt, policy director for the Ohio League of Conservation Voters; Richard Grant, owner of Calderon-Grant, Inc., environmental and ecological services; Christopher O. Johnson, former vice president of investment banking and economic development at Fifth Third Securities, Inc.; and Susan Ashbrook, environmental steward for the City of Columbus.  Gregory McCann, assistant general counsel for Forest City Enterprises, will give the keynote address.

Brownfields are typically abandoned or underutilized industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hampered due to the real or perceived presence of environmental hazards. Putting these properties back into productive use provides both environmental and economic benefits – it creates jobs, restores local economies and cleans up the environment.

The National Brownfield Associations is the brownfield industry’s largest member-based organization. Its members include a wide range of public and private sector stakeholders, among them, property owners, developers, investors, service professionals and elected officials.

Cost for the event is $65 for NBA members and government representatives, and $90 for non-members. The registration deadline is October 10.

For information and to register, visit www.brownfieldassociation.org/Events/Ohio_101608/tabid/340/Default.aspx or call 773-714-0407, ext. 113.
