Awards to Honor Builders for Energy-Efficient Design
Orlando — The NAHB Research Center will host its 12th Annual EnergyValue Housing Awards during the International Builders’ Show on Feb. 7, 2007, in Orlando. Ten finalists were selected for the awards, which honor homebuilders who voluntarily incorporate energy efficiency into the design, construction and marketing of new homes. HVAC Excellence Goes Green

Number of LEED APs Growing at SmithGroup, Turner
Detroit / New York — Nearly a third of SmithGroup employees—243 of 800—are now accredited by the LEED accreditation program, the company reports, citing an increase of 178 percent from SmithGroup’s January 2006 roster of 87 LEED APs.
Turner Construction Company announced that the company has surpassed its goal of doubling the number of LEED Accredited Professionals on staff during 2006, and now has 250 LEED APs on staff; an increase of 146 people in a single year. Turner has more than doubled the number of LEED APs on staff in each of the last two years, from 42 in 2004 to 106 in 2005, and 250 in 2006. New York — New York-based Guardian Service Industries, who are engaged in the building janitorial and maintenance industry, has made the transition into a totally green cleaning company. While the switch involves a significant expenditure by the company for retraining staff, introducing new equipment and chemicals, and implementing safe packaging and shipping of green-sealed certified products, Guardian is absorbing all of the costs involved in its transition to environmentally preferred practices rather than passing it along to its clients.

Second Holcim Awards Competition Opens June 2007

Turning Drains into “Grate” Art

PV Membranes Receive UL Approval for Three Additional Roofing Membranes
Solana Beach, Calif. — Open Energy Corporation (OEC / www.openenergycorp.com ), a renewable energy company focused on the development and distribution of solar energy solutions, announced that its SolarSave PV Membrane product has received Underwriter's Laboratory (UL) approval to incorporate material from Seaman Corporation (FiberTite), Duro-Last and IB Roof Systems.
