| Welcome to the ED+C eNews for January 2006 |
|
Greetings, Happy New Year, and welcome to the January 2006 edition of the ED+C eNews. (Just as a reminder, ED+C will now be issuing these eNewsletters on a monthly basis.)
2006 is already shaping up to be a big year for ED+C, with Editor Michelle Hucal, LEED AP, being elected to the USGBC Board of Directors! Congrats, Michelle! In further ED+C news, the "early bird" discounted rate for the Green Design
Solutions conference in Atlanta, May 2 - 4, 2006, has been extended through February 28, 2006. Visit www.greendesignsolutions.com to register today for the conference.
I'll be heading to Orlando for the International Builders Show next week to meet with exhibitors and learn more about sustainable development. Flying out of Michigan into (hopefully) sunny Florida will be a nice winter respite. If any of you reading this will be down there, be sure to stop and say
hello at the BNP Media booth if you have a chance.
Until next time,
Joe Mayton ED+C Associate Editor

Rheem Tankless Water Heaters Qualify for Federal Energy Tax Incentive Montgomery, Ala. -- The Water Heating Division of Rheem Manufacturing Company announced that its entire line of gas-fired tankless water heaters qualify for a federal income tax credit under the new Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2005. A provision of the bill, which went into effect on January 1, 2006, provides a personal income tax credit of $300 to homeowners who install a gas, propane or oil-fired water heater with an energy factor (EF) of at least 0.80. All six models in the Rheem tankless water heater line meet this criteria by carrying energy factors of 0.81
or 0.82. The line includes models fueled by either natural gas or propane, while offering gas inputs of up to 199,000 BTU per hour and flow rates up to 7.4 gallons per minute at a 45 degree Fahrenheit rise in water temperature. For more information on Rheem, visit www.rheemtankless.com.
Independent Research Reports Air Purification Technology Eliminates Anthrax and E.Coli Spores Belmont, Mass. -- Kronos Advanced
Technologies, Inc. announced that a team of senior researchers from the Institute for Veterinary Medicine in the Ukraine, including specialists in immunopathology and bacteriology, found in an independent microbiological trial that Kronos' air purification and sterilization technology was able to destroy and sterilize air that had been inseminated with Anthrax and E.coli spores. The Kronos technology moves, filters and purifies air by using high voltage electrodes rather than filters or fans, and can be embedded across existing environments, retro-fitted into any existing ventilation system, or built as a standalone product, the company says. Kronos is actively pursuing the
commercialization of its technology with strategic partners in the aircraft, automotive, residential and military markets. The study will be published in the Herald of Hygiene and Epidemiology, a peer-reviewed journal that focuses on biological testing, hygiene and communicable disease. For more information, visit www.kronosati.com.
ICF Construction El Paso, Texas -- Perform Wall Panels are
insulated concrete forms comprised of cement, polystyrene, water, and other additives. The panel's geometry produces a grid pattern that allows the panels to be placed vertically, horizontally or in combination. When filled with concrete and rebar, the Perform Wall Panel System produces a monolithic reinforced concrete wall. Modulation of concrete formulas and the amount of reinforcement allows the load bearing capacity to be adapted for almost any requirement. The panels serve as their own fire, sound and thermal barrier, and are virtually impervious to natural assaults including earthquake, fire, wind, water, heat and cold, the company says.
