Welcome to the ED+C eNews for November 23, 2005 |
Greetings and blessings on this abbreviated work week as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday!
My name is Joe Mayton, and I am the new associate editor on ED+C. I'm pictured here with the ED+C staff at the Greenguard pub night in Atlanta.
Greenbuild 2005 served as the fast-paced welcome to my new role in the "green" industry, and I'm still talking about all the great new products and people that I was introduced to. As I gather my footing, I look forward to even more excitement in 2006 and the opportunity to interact with ED+C's readers.
FYI: I'm also the products editor for ED+C, and I would love your suggestions and recommendations for product selection and how to determine which products to include in ED+C's print issue, as well as in the eNews and Web site. We get inundated with new "green" products daily and it can be quite the challenge to decide what to print for you. How do you select "green" products and what would you like to see us cover? Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Until next time, Joe Mayton ED+C Associate Editor

The Duro-Last® Cool Zone® roofing system reflects up to 87 percent of the sun's energy - delivering real cost savings for building owners and managers - and loses only 1 percent of reflectivity after three years of weathering (based on the EPA's ENERGY STAR® roof
products testing criteria). The Cool Zone system can also help in obtaining credits toward LEED and LEED-EB certification. From reducing heat islands and optimizing energy performance, to resource reuse and thermal comfort, the Cool Zone roofing system can be a part of a comprehensive package for improving building performance. Energy-Efficient, Programmable Flushing Timer Marietta, Ohio -- Based on the premise that less can be more, Skuttle Indoor Air Quality Products has totally redesigned its Humidifier Automatic Flushing Timer, Model S-HAFT. The new unit is smaller and uses less water than its predecessor, yet is even more efficient at flushing accumulated mineral deposits from most central-system steam- and reservoir-type humidi-fiers, the company reports. Frequent flushing-automatically rinsing the water pan with fresh, clean water-helps the humidifier operate more effectively, and reduces or eliminates the need for cleaning the humidifier's
internal components during the humidification season. Skuttle also manufactures residential IAQ products (including humidification, filtration and ventilation products). Visit www.skuttle.com.
Exercise Pool without Electricity for Swimming Jackson Heights, N.Y. -- An energy-efficient exercise pool which needs no machinery or electricity for swimming, can fit two swimmers at a time, and offers a better and more natural swim than mechanical swimming machines at a fraction of their cost has been developed by Andy Foldes, a New York pool professional concerned about the endless ways in which swimming machines and pools waste energy, space and money. Called the Swimergy Swim System, the pool is only 7 by 14 feet, and makes use of resistance swimming technology used by college swim teams and the military. Not least, since the
Swimergy pool is free of mechanical clutter, it can replace the family pool, as the enjoyment of a pool is not proportional to its size, Foldes reports. The company says the energy-efficient bungee swimming design uses no electricity for swimming, and only pennies a day for filtering. Visit www.swimergy.com for more information.
