Make Your Voice Heard
While the polls for this year's presidential election aren't yet open, the polls to ED+C and Sustainable Facility's inaugural Readers' Choice Awards opened yesterday. Be sure to visit http://vote.EDCmag.com to make your voice heard!
Oh, and did I mention you can win $$? That's right, each week we'll be giving away a gift card worth $25 to one lucky winner. And while that's good, it's not the best part: You can increase your odds of winning by voting as many times as you want! Let's see you get either from the presidential polls.
Those of you who have been to www.EDCmag.com might've noticed one of our newest features. Yes, at long last, we've added video to our repertoire of media offerings. If you haven't yet seen it, be sure to check it out.
If you have a video of your own and would like to share it, we're looking for virtual tours of facilities or sustainable product demonstrations. Just email me at teald@bnpmedia.com and tell me what you have!
Cheers,
Derrick Teal ED+C Managing Editor

White Paper: Code Requirements and Fire Stopping for Over-the-Deck Venting of Stone Coated Metal Roofs
The International Building Code (Section 1203.2), the International Residential Code (Section 806) and
the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code (Sections 504.10, 505.10, and 506.4) all allow attic venting with the vent openings covered with corrosion-resistant wire mesh with openings no greater than 1/4". The International Wildland-Urban Interface Code, 2006 edition, is much more restrictive in terms of the location of ventilation openings for the attic and it also specifically requires in Section 504.2: "For roof coverings where the profile allows a space between the roof covering and the roof decking, the space at the eave ends shall be fire stopped to preclude entry of flames or embers." Fire stopping can consist of 2-inch nominal dimension lumber (Section 504.3).
