Welcome to this month's edition of ED+C eNews ...
A Question of Energy
Well, the new administration has taken over and is in the process of trying to right what's ailing our economy. By now, I'm sure all of you are aware that a part of President Obama's plan to create new jobs is through an increase in the amount of energy and power supplied by clean sources.

Renewable energy sources, like solar and wind, immediately jump to my mind when I think of clean alternative sources. However, is that what other people think?
I recently read an editorial by Michigan's attorney general urging people to allow the construction of some new "clean" coal plants to commence in the state. His argument was based on the belief that Michigan's immediate need for jobs and the willingness of some utility companies to begin work on the plants was too good of an opportunity to let pass.
Now, whether you believe there is such a thing as "clean coal," the comments of Michigan's attorney general raise an interesting question: Is it possible to make a clear-cut switch to green sources of energy?
Is it possible for the U.S. to quit cold turkey on its current means of energy production, or does it need to be weaned? And when I say "cold turkey," I mean no new production of nuclear or coal plants--of any kind--and just the construction of new renewable energy plants or farms. If it needs to be weaned, are there even any methods in existence that will feasibly make the switch to clean forms of energy?
Write me at teald@bnpmedia.com, and let me know your thoughts. While you're at it, be sure to read our February issue of ED+C or visit www.EDCmag.com. Our focus this month is energy and alternative sources.
Cheers,
Derrick Teal, ED+C Managing Editor
