SAN ANTONIO, TX - With a 24-year, $16 million energy plan, U.S. Army Medical Command installation Fort Sam Houston is expected to exceed federally-mandated goals for 305 energy reductions per square foot of building space by 2005. Installation of the energy efficient systems is scheduled to take approximately two years. Fort Sam Houston will invest $6 million in the plan, with energy and operational savings expected to generate the remainder. Johnson Controls is providing low-flow bathroom fixtures, among other improvements.
"The preliminary study conducted on the potential for saving energy makes us very confident that we'll reduce energy consumption," said Bill Blount, Fort Sam Houston deputy director of public works. "Saving taxpayer dollars is important, but our greatest interest is in reducing consumption."
