Lees says an installation of its carpet will not adversely impact indoor air quality and all of the products are CRI Green Label certified. The product’s Unibond RE backing system features 20 percent post-consumer recycled content.

DuPont Textiles and Interiors Commercial Flooring (Wilmington, Del.) announced the certification of DuPont Antron carpet fibers as Environmentally Preferable Products by Scientific Certification Systems. DuPont Commercial Flooring is the first and only carpet fiber manufacturer to achieve this certification. Environmentally Preferable Products include products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose.

Pacificrest Mills’ (Irvine, Calif.) BioBak is a collection of performance backing solutions for carpets that uses soybeans, a 100 percent renewable natural resource. This new technology provides an alternative chemistry to conventional polyurethane in carpets that is safe and non-toxic, the company says. Post-consumer and post-industrial materials have also been added to the backing composition.

The W.W. Henry Co. (Aliquippa, Pa.), manufacturer of flooring adhesives for carpet and other flooring options, offers GreenLine GL62 high-performance, environmentally-preferred carpet adhesive. It has almost no discernible odor and the lowest level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of any product on the market as measured by CRI criteria, the company says.

Interface Flooring Systems (LaGrange, Ga.) introduced Transformation, a random-installation carpet tile system, inspired by nature. The product utilizes Solutia Ulton Renew fibers and Interface GlasBac RE high recycled-content backing system. Interface offers other environmental products including Intersept, an antimicrobial preservative used in Interface carpet products.

Earth Weave Carpet Mills (Dalton, Ga.) produces 100 percent natural carpets and underlayments, free from any synthetics, dyes or pesticides/fungicides. The carpeting is also able to completely biodegrade in just a few short years, the company says. The Bio-Floor line is made with a face fiber of 100 percent natural wool, without the application of chemicals to affect indoor air quality. The primary backing is a combination of hemp and cotton; the adhesive is biodegradable and nontoxic as well.
