Featuring a portrait of Carrier Corp. founder Willis Carrier, the new 600-square-foot library houses rare books, including an autographed copy of Carrier’s Modern Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilation; early editions of publications written by other industry pioneers such as the Margaret Ingles’ biography on Carrier; a complete set of ASHRAE publications; and numerous conference proceedings.
“ASHRAE’s new headquarters are a showcase for sustainability,” said John Mandyck, vice president, Carrier Government and International Relations. “With the dedication of the Willis H. Carrier Engineering Library, Carrier’s commitment to helping the industry develop new sustainable solutions and products for high-performance buildings will carry on through the advances of ASHRAE’s research and educational materials.”
William A. Harrison, ASHRAE president and chair of the ASHRAE Headquarters Renovation Ad Hoc Committee, said, “ASHRAE is committed to making its headquarters a ‘living lab’ for its members and the HVAC-R industry. Generous donations from companies such as Carrier have helped to make this goal a reality. With its sustainability and productivity focus, this project showcases Carrier’s commitment to environmental leadership and healthy environments. ASHRAE is grateful for not only their donation, but their dedication to the technologies we are embracing as part of the renewal.”
Mary Milmoe, director, Marketing Communications, Carrier Building Systems and Services, accepted the award on behalf of Carrier. “It is a great honor that the ASHRAE Engineering Library is named after Willis H. Carrier,” said Milmoe. “Carrier’s first system for ‘manufactured weather’ in 1902 sparked an industry that revolutionized the way in which we all live, work and play. From that defining moment – and through to the present day – Carrier has built on a legacy of innovation.“
