Certified Wood: Giles & Kendall's CedarSafe Cedar Closet Liners Receive Forest Stewardship Council Certification

Huntsville, Ala. – Giles & Kendall, manufacturer of the #1 CedarSafe closet liner brand in the United States, has received the Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification. CedarSafe is the only cedar closet liner brand to receive the certification.

“The FSC certification is essential in understanding the care we take in making an eco-friendly product, from maintaining well-managed forests to the final result: giving builders, remodelers and consumers a practical green solution,” says Giles & Kendall President Blake Austin. “This certification builds upon the integrity of our company in the growing area of environmental responsibility.”

The FSC has established internationally recognized standards for forest management. CedarSafe closet liners bearing the FSC Chain-of-Custody stamp means that aromatic Eastern Redcedar wood in specially marked boxes has been tracked from well-managed forests and controlled sources as a raw material, all the way through processing, manufacturing and packaging. The SGS Group, the world leader in the specialized fields of inspection, testing and certification, conducted the Giles & Kendall chain-of-custody certification on behalf of the FSC.

FSC-certified forests, which are the source of some of this wood, must comply with 10 principles and 57 criteria including federal and local land use laws, community relations and workers rights. The forests must be managed in such a way to have minimal impact on natural resources and wildlife.

“We work to ensure that the chain of custody is maintained, which in turn has a positive impact on the environment, the local economy and the people in the community,” says Denise Dawsey, business development manager for SGS’ Midwest Region.
