Day 2

(bottom)ED+C presented winners of the Excellence in Design competition with glass and steel awards.
The excitement from Day One escalated by early morning as more and more attendees flooded the exhibit hall for the Greenbuild Conference and Expo on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The Opening Plenary Session featured speaker Tachi Kiuchi, former CEO, Mitsubishi Electric America; "What We Learned in the Rainforest: Business Lessons from Nature."

Throughout the day, the conference offered Convention Center Tours, poster sessions, educational sessions, and of course, the exhibit hall. Additional activities scheduled for the day included a break for fishing off the pier and a walking tour. The midday presenter was James Wines, Founder, President and Creative Director of SITE, an architecture and environmental arts organization, and designer of more than 150 architecture, interior design, public space, and landscape architecture projects.

ED+C also presented the magazine's first annual Excellence in Design Award winners with prizes for their commitment to green building. See the full story by returning to the previous page.

After the awards presentation ceremony, Carrier Vice President of Government & International Relations John Mandyck (left) poses with Phil Popowicz, project engineer of Carnegie Mellon University's Henderson House renovation, and Russ Raisig, commercial products manager of Carrier distributor Standard Air & Lite.
As part of its continuing celebration of the 100th anniversary of modern air conditioning by its founder, Dr. Willis H. Carrier, Carrier Corporation also recognized an environmentally-sound heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) investment by Carnegie Mellon University with a Carrier Regional Environmental Leadership Award. The award was presented to Carnegie Mellon for the HVAC portion of its recent Henderson House residence hall renovation. For more details, visit www.carrier.com

Later in the day, the conference hosted the Emerging Green Builders Forum, David Gottfried's Greed to Green Book signing and the Burgh Bus Party for a little fun around Pittsburgh. ED+C also hosted a cocktail party for attendees and exhibitors on Wednesday evening.
