MCKINNEY, TX - Roy Lee Walker Elementary School is participating in a pilot program partly funded by the state of Texas to create a model school that incorporates environmentally sustainable design. The 70,000-sq. ft. school was engineered to avoid excessive energy consumption and avoid the destruction of natural habitats.
Part of the design includes the use of storefront and daylighting systems from Vistawall Architectural Products, part of the Vistawall Group. The school uses medium stile doors and the FG 3000 Flush Glaze storefront system, as well as the Naturalite Skylight Systems. By using daylighting technology, classrooms receive most of their internal lighting from the sun, which conserves energy and also benefits the pupils.
