Hillsboro, Ore., and Miami Beach, Fla. — Caroma, manufacturer of dual-flush toilets and stylish bathroom sinks, was chosen by Cambean Hospitality, a Miami Beach-based hospitality group, to supply high-efficiency toilets for the Clifton South Beach hotel. The Clifton South Beach is a 35-room historic art deco boutique hotel in Florida that is currently undergoing a multimillion dollar renovation with the ultimate goal of LEED Gold certification.

The entire hotel is being retrofitted with Sydney Smart 270 toilets, a dual-flush toilet using 1.28 gallons per flush for solid waste and 0.8 gallons for liquid and paper waste, averaging 0.90 gallons based on a 1:4 full/half flush ratio. Reportedly, this installation will save more than 74 percent water compared with the 3.5-gallon toilets previously installed. Assuming just a 50-percent occupancy rate and toilets utilized three times/day, that is a savings of more than 51,000 gallons of water in just one year.
