Green Built Home Receives $50,000 In Grants From The Home Depot Foundation

Madison, Wisc. — Green Built Home, a voluntary program of Wisconsin Environmental Initiative (WEI) in partnership with the Madison Area Builders Association, has recently been awarded two $25,000 grants by The Home Depot Foundation to develop and implement the Wisconsin Green Building Educational Campaign and theGreen Built Way to Affordable Housing.

A key component of Green Built Home is an educational campaign highlighting the impacts of home construction and the lower-impact alternatives that are available. Green Built Home's current campaign primarily targets homebuilders and a small percentage of homebuyers. Green Built Home is working to encourage public discussion of the environmental costs of construction by raising awareness of the problems, the alternatives and the information and resources that are available.

With The Home Depot Foundation's support, Green Built Home also intends to introduce green building concepts into projects and make green building integral to affordable housing planning and implementation by demonstrating the practicality and feasibility of incorporating green techniques into affordable housing.

Specifically, Green Built Home will develop a set of guidelines, recommendations, sample project specifications, sample contract language, and design criteria that addresses green affordable housing in Wisconsin.

My project is in rural Roxboro, NC on retired farmland. I have a contractor Mark Dyer, GBTP (336)516-0039 of Durham, NC. I would like to know how I can qualify for grant money or green appliances (5 star energy effecient, low flow showers, No to Low voc paints, etc. Any and all help would be appreciated. I am a retire female and this would be my dream home. I have researched much on green built sustainable homes. Just need a hand up not a hand out.
