St. Louis — Rubberific mulch looks and works like wood mulch, but is made out of 100 percent Environmental Protection Agency-approved recycled rubber truck tires. This product has also been shown to last at least 10 years without rotting or fading, according to the company. Rubberific says the non-toxic mulch requires no maintenance, no replacement or waste costs, and is ideal in areas of heavy rains and flooding. The product does not attract termites or insects, it inhibits the growth of molds and fungi, it preserves ground moisture, and it minimizes dust. The rubber mulch is currently being used at a Six Flags Great America theme park, some McDonald’s restaurants and various applications such as golf courses and country clubs, atrium decoration, businesses, playgrounds and homes. The mulch is available in redwood, cedar, cypress and earthtone options; custom colors are also available.
