The foam insulation is sprayed as a liquid and expands 100 times its volume within seconds, permanently adhering to the surfaces of the surrounding building materials and filling and sealing all joints, crevices, and gaps. Icynene provides an effective air and moisture barrier, according to president Alan J. Rankin, who added that the product can reduce energy costs by as much as 30% to 50%. “It can also work with ventilation and air filtration systems to control indoor air quality,” he said.
Icynene creates an airtight seal, which prevents pollen, dust, and outdoor pollutants from entering the home or building. Combined with proper ventilation, the insulation also helps to control the growth of molds. The foam is water-based, does not emit harmful gases, and contains no formaldehyde or harmful CFCs or HCFCs. It is the only insulation material certified by the EnvirodesicTM Certification Program for maximum indoor air quality.
