The innovative design and environmental systems at the La Jolla facility, including a combined heat and power cogeneration system, significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) greenhouse gas emissions. The building also conserves about 11 million gallons of water per year through various building design features, according to the company, including low-flow restroom fixtures, re-circulated cooling water, recycled air conditioning condensation and reduced water flow for landscaping projects.
“Attaining LEED recognition reflects the dedication of J&JPRD to the highest standards in environmental stewardship,†said Michael Jackson, Ph.D., president of ALZA Corp. and leader of the West Coast discovery and early development group that includes the J&JPRD La Jolla facility. “It also pays tribute to the hard work and commitment of our employees, who take such pride in sustaining the environment in which we live and work.â€
