This custom home project has a fiscal and environmental mission. Developer Brenda Nunes is aiming to demonstrate that a spectacular, custom-built home, complete with the finest craftsmanship can provide value through sustainable, green building practices.
“We are looking to demonstrate that a custom home can use green building techniques for the same costs as traditional building practices. Our goal is environmental responsibility with a financial win-win,†Nunes said.
Major support for the project comes from CMI Homes, the Built Green program, Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties, and the Environmental Home Center, a source for environmentally-friendly building products. Innovative energy-saving product sponsors include Alexander Lighting (ENERGY STAR light fixtures), Danfoss Inc. (radiant floor heating and cooling), FanTech Inc. (heat recovery ventilator), and WaterFurnace/EarthHeat (geothermal furnace system). Marketing support is being provided by The Frause Group, ENERGY STAR Northwest Homes, CubeLink Systems, Puget Sound Energy, Suncadia, and the Central Washington Home Builders Association.
Nunes has selected CMI Homes as the builder of choice for this project. Grey Lundberg, founder of CMI Homes, said, “This project is the perfect opportunity to break down the costs of individual “green†items and how they compare to traditional building products. We anticipate having a great story to tell.â€
This showcase home is the first resort property of its kind to be developed that demonstrates the building practices promoted by the Built Green program. The most recent past project was in the Issaquah Highlands in 2004.
