NEW YORK, NY — The Climatex® Lifecycle™ method of manufacturing a 100% sustainable upholstery fabric in a closed-loop system has been awarded the first prize of 40,000 British pounds (approx. $60,000) in the Design Sense 2000 Awards from the Design Museum in London. The method was developed through collaboration with DesignTex, environmental designer William McDonough, chemist Dr. Michael Braungart and Rohner Textil AG, the Swiss mill that manufactures the process. The textiles are sold in the US through DesignTex and Carnegie.

According to Albin Kalin, Rohner’s general manager, his firm will invest the prize money “in a project to dye without producing waste water."
