SCS has certified 98 furniture products to date, including tables, chairs, storage, systems furniture and casegoods. The level brand and its numeric marking of 1, 2 or 3 indicate what threshold of certification a product has achieved. Of the 98 level-certified products, Steelcase's Think chair is the first product to earn level 3, the highest tier of achievement. A complete list of certified products certified by SCS is available at www.scscertified.com/ecoproducts/products.
"Companies that are truly committed to working toward sustainability work with SCS," says Stowe Hartridge Beam, level program manager at SCS, "We are proud to be at the forefront, providing this first-ever, multi-stakeholder sustainability certification for furniture."
The level program encourages manufacturers to start their journey toward sustainability with a baseline environmental assessment addressing material utilization, energy and atmosphere impacts, human and ecosystem health and social responsibility. The initial self-assessment and subsequent annual reviews must be verified by an approved third-party certifier.
