USGBC Announces Recipients of Greenbuild Scholarship Programs

PHOENIX – The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) selected 39 scholarship recipients to attend this year’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo as part of its Greenbuild Scholarship Program.

This year’s scholarship recipients came from across the United States, range in age from 13 to 57 and represent a variety of backgrounds and professional experience. Scholarship recipients received a full-conference registration package, including access to the Opening Keynote & Celebration and Closing Plenary, the exhibit hall, the two-day Residential Summit and hundreds of educational sessions. USGBC, along with its national network of 78 chapters and non-profit organizations, recruited and selected scholarship recipients. At Greenbuild, recipients met with their local USGBC chapter leaders to help further their engagement at the local level after the show.

As part of its Young Leader Awards, USGBC selected five honorees between the ages of 13 and 25 to attend Greenbuild and Bringing the Noise for the Earth, a spring 2010 event hosted by Youth Speaks. The honorees were selected through a competitive application process and evaluated on their demonstrated commitment to sustainability in their communities and schools.

The 2009 USGBC Young Leaders will work with a group of Youth Speaks Brave New Voices Green Team poets to continue the conversation about environmental issues facing their respective communities throughout the year. Highlights of the partnership include special programming at Greenbuild, video documentation of their personal environmental experiences in their communities over the winter, and a joint performance at the Kennedy Center during Bringing the Noise for the Earth in the spring.
