When engineers told the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) that its Civil War-era office building on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., was literally falling down, the Quaker lobbying group saw an opportunity to put its advocacy of environmental stewardship into action with a green building. FCNL worked with Burt Hill to renovate the headquarters to incorporate geothermal heating-cooling system and a vegetated roof.
